Snow
I look at him funny,
And say, "Sure why not?"
For by him I was saved
And not left to rot.
I sit down nervously
And he seems to grow.
I begin timidly,
"Well, my name is Snow.
I lived north of this place
Since I was a kit.
It was a nice den and
I was fond of it.
"We were a small family,
My parents and I.
Then the hunters came and "
I pause now and cry.
"It's okay," the wolf says,
"I lost my home too.
They burned the forest; I
Don't think they meant to."
My tears now stop flowing,
And I sit back up.
I should finish my tale,
Not act like a pup.
"After the hunters came,
I wandered around.
But I stayed near my den,
Hoping to be found.
"One night I was tired
And it was quite dark,
So I slept in a field
Where I saw a lark.
"I awake to the storm,
Snow hitting my face.
Not sure what I should do,
I ran from that place.
"I smacked into a tree
And let out a cry.
Passing out in the snow,
I thought I would die.
"But then you ran by and
Landed on my hip.
When you tripped over me,
I let out a yip."
"And so now here you are,"
The wolf says with glee.
"I'll ask you a question:
Will you stay with me?"
"Really? You'll let me stay?"
I ask in surprise.
His response is "Of course,
Put difference aside.
"I am lonely and sad,
Have been for a while.
You might be small and young,
But you make me smile."
I start to yip, happy
I won't be alone.
The wolf begins howling,
Then gives me a bone.
"I have one more question,"
I tell my new friend.
"Tell me, what is your name?
It will help me to blend."
The wolf stared into space,
As if thinking back.
Then he comes to and says,
"Right, my name is Zack."
